Excerpt:
Her little car had an engine about as powerful as a hamster wheel. There was no way she was going to outrun the truck that was accelerating with lightning speed. On one side of her was a deep ravine, the other the steep slope of a mountain towered high and tree covered. The steering wheel shook violently as she pushed her little car to its limits, sheer adrenaline keeping her focused on the winding road. As she rounded a sharp curve, the back tires spun and fishtailed out from behind her. The tiny car shook violently as Lucy struggled to maintain control. The SUV caught up with her then, ramming into her rear bumper. The car groaned but held on. Lucy spun the wheel to make the next sharp curve, all the while her eyes searched for a way off the dangerous mountain highway. Another crash from behind jolted her car forward with such force Lucy lost her grip on the steering wheel. The car veered right but she managed to straighten it out before hitting the tree line.
“What the hell do you want with me?” she screamed at the truck in her rearview mirror.
The driver responded by slamming into the back of her car again. Metal ground against metal, gravel flew everywhere, and the car careened toward a thick bank of trees to her left. Straightening the car once more, Lucy crushed the gas pedal to the floor and watched as the speedometer climbed quickly. Lucy felt the little rush of excitement she always got in a good pursuit despite the fact that she was the one being pursued.
She whipped around yet another curve, and the SUV caught up with her. Just as she managed to get her little car under control again, the SUV crashed into her back end again with such force Lucy thought her car might shatter there in the middle of the road. The little car veered to the right, aiming straight for the side of the road and the ravine beyond. Lucy tried to regain control but the effort was in vain. She braced herself as the car plowed through thick vegetation, hit something, and started to slide down the steep embankment.
She heard the growl of the SUV’s engine roaring away over the revving of her own engine as the tiny car crashed through the underbrush. The car flew over a log and landed on the slick vegetation covering the incline. The car lost its hold on the ground and rolled its way down the slope, finally landing up against the trunk of a large pine tree where the engine died. Lucy’s head smacked against the steering wheel knocking her near to senseless. Everything fell deathly silent as she fought to remain conscious.
A loud crack broke the silence. As she watched through the broken windshield, the tree in front of her began to wobble. Blood trailed from her forehead into her left eye blurring her already shaky vision. Rubbing at it with the back of her arm, she used her other hand to desperately claw at the seat belt release.
If she didn’t get out of the car, the tree was going to fall right on top of her.
The giant pine swayed once and then began its descent toward Lucy and her crumpled car. Yanking hard at the jammed seat belt, her head swimming and her stomach churning, Lucy finally freed herself. Just as the tree crushed the roof of her car, like it were nothing more than a tin can, Lucy pulled her body through the opening that used to be the driver’s side window.

Excerpt:

“Did you know anyone can make an offering to Old Father, and if he accepts, he can divine their future mate?” He let me snatch the journal out of his hands. “The Salticidae belief in soul mates is so deeply rooted in their culture that before a person forms a strong bond with their significant other the couple must have their spiritual status confirmed. They bring Old Father an item that belongs to their beloved, and from that he can tell whether they are a match. I decided to test his process for myself.”
“Why would you—?” A worse thought occurred to me. “You shared my journal with him?”
“No.” He reached behind his back. “That would have been a violation of your trust.”
“Trust? What trust?” My claws lengthened. “You read my journal without my permission.”
His lips tightened. “I read your notes to save you, to learn how to care for you.”
The joints in my wings began itching. “I am not a pet.”
“You would have died if I hadn’t,” he pointed out to me.
I tucked the journal, the memories of Edan, against my chest. “I wanted to.”
He went still. “And now?”
“I will do my duty to Henri.” Starting tomorrow, I would write. “Then I’m going after Idra.”
He pulled the bowl I had used for breakfast from behind him.
“Where did you—?” I groaned, feeling ten kinds of foolish. “You lied to me.”
“I did. I had to know.” He tossed it to the ground. “Tell me.”
Tell him. Not hardly. “I see no reason to answer your deceit with the truth.”
“Tell me the truth.” He prowled closer. “Were you married to Edan?”
The evasion came harder to my tongue than expected. “That is none of your business.”
He stalked me until my back hit a tree. “A yes would have been simpler.”
My pulse leapt when he braced a hand over my head and leaned closer. “Why does it matter?”
“It might be what you are, or what was done to me, but I can’t stop thinking about you.” His jaw worked. “You can imagine how that conflicts my morals to covet another male’s wife, especially one whose husband obviously adored her.” He smiled, and it was hard. “Rather he doted on her, like one might a younger sister. After reading your journal, I thought to myself that I never saw you and Edan be affectionate in the way husbands and wives are. Rough as his edges were, he would have stolen a kiss from you, a real kiss, if he had wanted one. Yet he never did. Not that I saw. Why was that?”
I shivered as his eyes searched mine. “Perhaps we believe in keeping our private lives private.”

Dallas Novak swore off women after his fiancée broke their engagement when his parents died. His plans were drastically changed when he was suddenly responsible for his family and their ranch, Novak Springs. Resigned to his new life, he threw himself into making the ranch successful alongside his siblings. They were the only things he had room for in his life. That changes when his little sister comes home from college with a broken heart of her own. She needs a distraction and has an idea for a Cowgirl Yoga program on the ranch. Dallas reluctantly agrees to give her new business a trial run so she has something to keep her mind off her lost love.

Ginnifer Zeiss is a well-established journalist for a prominent magazine in New York. When Emma Novak approaches her to write an article for her new business, she drops everything to experience what a real ranch is like. She had secretly always loved ranches and is attracted to sexy cowboys. So with her best friend in tow, they prepare to experience a horse ranch in Washington state.

When Dallas meets Ginnifer he is instantly attracted to her. He starts to question his rule of only spending one night with a woman and forgetting about her. The more time he spends in Ginnifer’s company, the more he wonders if he can live without her. Can he get over the betrayal he felt when his ex-fiancée left him long enough to grab happiness?

Excerpt

“I should’ve known I could find you here.” Ginnifer turned to see Dallas leaning against one of the posts in the barn. “I think you may have made a friend for life,” he said.

“She’s a beautiful horse,” Ginnifer replied as she was petting Olympia’s mane. “I thought it would be too late to come and see you, so I decided to visit with these two wonderful creatures.”

Dallas sauntered over to where Ginnifer was standing and pulled her into his arms. Once she was fully seated within his embrace, she looked up into his eyes. A smile only a man could possibly portray crossed his face. Leaning his face closer to hers, he told her, “It’s never too late for you to come see me, Gin.”

Ginnifer crinkled her nose up and shook her head at him. “Yes, tonight would’ve been, but only because I had no idea where to find you in that house or if it was unlocked for me to find you.”

Dallas pulled her closer as he leaned down and brushed his lips against her cheek. Bringing his mouth up to her ear, he whispered, “Well, we can remedy that now. I can show you exactly where you can find me each night.”

Ginnifer laughed and pulled away from him. “In a bit of a hurry are you?”

With a devilish grin Dallas said, “Absolutely.”

“I don’t know that I’m done visiting with Olympia and her baby. Does he have a name yet?” she asked.

Dallas shook his head. “No, why don’t you name him?”

Excitement filling her voice, she said, “Really? Oh, I have to think about this…he’s so beautiful, he needs a name to match.”
Dallas laughed as Ginnifer bubbled with excitement. “Do you have anything in mind to fit such lofty expectations?”

“What do you think about calling him Eros?” she asked.

Dallas pulled back and looked at her, shock evident on his face. “The God of Love?”

“Yes, because everyone that looks at him will fall instantly in love with him. I think it’s very appropriate.”

Smiling down at her, Dallas nodded his head in agreement. He leaned down and kissed her forehead before saying, “It is perfect. Are you ready to stay the night with me, or do you want to visit with Olympia and Eros longer?”

Ginnifer was more than ready to spend the night with him. The more time she spent with him, the harder it was to leave. She was already in too deep to pull herself out. It was starting to look like she might be nursing a broken heart when she went back to New York. There was no way she was going to deny herself whatever time she had with him. So with that decision made, she nodded her head in affirmation and agreed, “Yes, take me to your bed.”

Dallas smiled as he pulled away from her. He grabbed her hand in his and pulled her along with him out of the barn. Ginnifer thought he would be in a hurry to get her inside of his bedroom, but he strolled along in a slow, lazy pace as they followed the path to the house. Dallas confused her at every turn. She thought all he wanted from her was sex, but the more she got to know him, it seemed like he genuinely liked to spend time with her. It was a conundrum she couldn’t pick apart and solve. When they got to the steps leading to the front door, Dallas stopped and pulled her into his arms. He brought his lips to hers in a quick scorching kiss before letting her go. Ginnifer felt butterflies growing inside of her stomach. The man was constantly surprising her.

Brushing his hands alongside of her cheek, he pushed back her hair. “I just needed to do that once before I got you inside.”
“You don’t see me complaining.”

A bark of laughter floated through the air. “That’s what I love about you, Gin. You constantly surprise me. Come on, let’s get inside,” he said as he grabbed her hand again. They stepped quietly into the house as he led her to his bedroom.

If Ginnifer was confused before, she was even more so now. What did he mean when he said he loved that about me? Those words scared her, but she wasn’t going to allow them to interfere with her night. She had been looking forward to spending this time with Dallas all day. She needed it. So when Dallas opened his bedroom door, Ginnifer left her reservations behind as she followed him inside.
