Today the spotlight is shining on Amanda Mariel and her Cinderella  inspired novella Enticing Lady Elianna.

Excerpt from Enticed by Lady Elianna:

“London is calling for me.” Garrett rubbed his hand across his thigh, brushing away a bit of dust. If not for his interest in Miss Elianna the party would hold no appeal for him. He found the rituals of house parties rather tedious and the gaming, liquor, and loose women at this one in particular were in short supply.

It was his sense that she was in danger that drove his interest in her—the adventure and excitement of saving a damsel. He’d still intended to enjoy himself during the party, at the least partake in good gaming and a delectable widow on the side.

“The devil you say.” Aubry stomped his boot, dislodging a clump of straw from the stables. “I rather think it would suit you to find some enjoyment here. Perhaps a proper lady to court and wed?”

Garrett raised a brow in mock indignation. “Whoever needs that when London is full of improper ladies to bed?”

“London will kill you yet, old friend.”

Garrett grinned with amusement. “But what a way to go.”

“I can see the gossip column now.” He waved his hand out in front of himself. “Garrett Tumbly, Viscount Sinclair, perished last evening with a belly full of port and a widow beneath him after having spent several hours at a popular gaming hell.” Aubry chuckled.

The familiar figure of Miss Elianna near the rear of the house caught Garrett’s attention. She wore a deep green gown with gold accents—the same shade she’d worn on their previous meetings. Peculiar for any woman. In fact, he’d never meet one whose frocks all bore the same shade.

Come to think of it, the Berkly servants wore the same colors. Deep green and gold were the earl’s livery colors. But Miss Elianna was no servant. She was a companion to Lady Caroline. Or was she? Had the ladies deceived him? Was that her secret?

“Ugh.” A huff of air whooshed from him when Aubry jabbed his elbow into Garrett’s side. Recovered, he turned to his friend. “Take care, will you.”

“What interest do you have in that woman?” Aubry asked.

Garrett shot him a scathing look. “I met her in London along with Lady Caroline. Something about her caught my interest but not in the way you suppose.”

“Do you mean to tell me you’ve met a woman worth more to you than a quick tumble?” Aubry jested.

“Last night’s port must have gone directly to your head causing lasting damage.” He glanced back at Miss Elianna. “I have no wish to become romantically involved with anyone here. There is, however, something the girl is hiding, and I intend to figure out what it is.”

“The party is not so grand that we should have a hard time discovering more about her. Tell me what you have to go on?”

Garrett’s pulse increased as he watched Miss Elianna making her way across the lawn, toward the house. His opportunity to speak with her again shrank with each step she took. Before long she’d be out of sight and reach. He turned his attention back to Aubry. “Later. For now, you must excuse me.”

Aubry gave a nod.

Garrett turned to follow Miss Elianna intent on charming her further—on discovering at least a morsel about her. Bloody hell. The woman moved fast. He pursued the area, searching for her as he strode across the expanse of lawn between him and the residence. She could not have gotten far.

A streak of green skirts caught his eye disappearing into the veranda doors and he hurried his pace. Another few strides and he too entered the house.

“Lord Sinclair. How nice to see you.” Lady Caroline traipsed across the parlor, her hips swinging seductively.

He locked his gaze on Miss Elianna, who continued making her way across the room. “And you as well, Lady Caroline, though I fear I am in a hurry at the moment.”

She placed her hand boldly on his arm, stilling him. “Surely you have a moment for me.”

Reluctantly, he turned to regard her and offered a smile. A pout tugged at her lower lip while her eyes danced playfully. He should refrain from being rude. Devil take it! She should not be approaching him in such an unabashed and inappropriate way.

He shook his arm free. “Perhaps later.”

“Lord Sinclair,” Lady Caroline called after him, an edge in her tone.

Question & Answers with Amanda Mariel:

Q1-What fairytale did you choose for your inspiration and why?

My fairytale is Through the Looking Glass. I chose it because it goes along nicely with my story from the Once Upon a Regency boxset (which was based on Alice in Wonderland).

Q1-What fairytale did you choose for your inspiration and why?

I choose Cinderella because it has always been a favorite of mine. I love the rags to riches trope.

Q2-What was your favorite fairytale as a child?

The Little Mermaide was hands down my favorite. I could sing every song without assistance because I watched the movie so much. Drove my older brother crazy!

Q3-What is your favorite line from your book?

“Dare to dream, Eli,” Anna called after her, as she made her way toward the servant’s stairs.

stolenbymyknavehires

Excerpt from Stolen by My Knave:

The waltz was still considered scandalous. Elizabeth had never understood that until Jack placed his hand on hers and started the steps of the dance. They moved in unison. One stroke, another, and their bodies almost close enough to touch. His heat mingled with hers until she warmed unbearably. Her breathing hitched slightly when she glanced up and met his gaze. He’d been staring down at her and she hadn’t realized it until that moment. His eyelids were drooped low and seductive. She’d only thought she could feel his heat before—now it was spreading through her like rapid fire. It was a never-ending inferno of need, but what she wanted she wasn’t exactly sure. What she did understand, without a doubt—only Jack could give it to her.

Jack started speaking, bringing her back to reality. How long had she been lost in thoughts? His words weren’t a profession of undying love or anything near what she’d hoped for… “I’m not going to recite poetry or revel you with pretty words.” His gaze seared through her. “Promises are not something I give lightly.”

Jack spun her around with graceful expertise. She didn’t understand what he was trying to say to her and feared it was quite important. Her mind was wandering and her need was too great for her to focus. What was she supposed to do?

“Absolutely,” she replied for lack of something better to say. Why did he have such a blasted effect on her? How was a woman to think when she wanted to wrap her arms tight around a certain enticing gentleman and never let go?

His lips tilted upward. “You don’t understand, but in time you will.”

“I don’t need you to tutor me on the finer points in life.” Her irritation with him was growing to new heights. If he was going to spout inane drivel, she had better things to do. That wasn’t what she required of him.

“Oh, but you do, love,” he replied. Wickedness filled his grin and she forced herself to hold a shiver of anticipation in. “At least in one regard.”

“I beg to differ.” She lifted her chin defiantly. “You speak of promises not given lightly, and in the same breath make none. I believe you said you won’t give me poetry or pretty words—perhaps that is the unspoken promise.” Elizabeth leaned closer than the dance allowed and rubbed her thumb over the back of his hand. He clasped onto her hand tighter. “I’m not shy about saying what I want. Tomorrow isn’t promised, and that’s the only guarantee we have in life. That our fate is unknown and it is up to us to decide how we want to live our life. I didn’t ask you to make me any promises. In fact, I didn’t ask anything of you.” She stared into his eyes. “But I will, and when I do, I can almost guarantee it will scare you witless.”

“I doubt anything you could say would accomplish such a feat.”

She smiled. “The night is still young, Your Grace.” Elizabeth licked her lips. “Give it time.”

The Little Mermaid. I loved Ariel, Flounder, and Sebastian. I could watch that move over and over again.

Zane Rossington, the Marquess of Seabrook is disillusioned and bored. He doesn’t believe in love and lives his life the way he pleases. All of it changes when he finds a mysterious woman roaming around his conservatory at his annual Regency themed charity masquerade ball.

Lady Callista Lyon, the Countess of Marin had one desire–revenge. In the act of finally achieving her goal she is swept over a terrace and somehow finds herself in the conservatory at Seabrook Manor. Uncertain if she succeeded in her revenge, but determined to finally move on, she does her best to adapt to her new life.

In the midst of chaos and uncertainty, can Zane and Callista discover something in each other they both believed lost to them?

Excerpt

“I’m not sure about this,” Callista said. “It’s…”

“Come out and show me,” Zane demanded. He sat back and waited. If she didn’t come out soon he’d have to go into the dressing room and drag her out. She had no idea what he would dare to do. He wasn’t afraid of taking control of the situation. What could be so bad about what she’d decided to try on first?

“Callista?”

“Yes,” she replied hesitantly.

“Please show me.”

After several seconds went by, she stepped out. He sucked in a breath and sat frozen for several agonizing moments. His heart beat rapidly in his chest. She was the loveliest woman he’d ever laid eyes on and the dress she’d tried on emphasized it in exquisite detail. There wasn’t a chance in hell he’d let her wear it anywhere outside of the store. He’d believed the burgundy dress would be form fitting, but he was wrong. This dress was the tightest thing he’d ever seen. How the hell had she managed to put it on? What was it made of? Lycra?

“See I told you that you wouldn’t like it,” she exclaimed as she pulled on the fabric. “It’s strange, and I don’t like how tight it is. It makes breathing rather difficult.”

Zane was growing rather uncomfortable as he watched her yank on the dress. It had to go. In fact, he’d help her remove it. It was the gentlemanly thing to do. Clearly, she was having trouble with it. He rose to his feet and strode to her side. “I believe you’re right, my dear. The dress isn’t you.”

“No?”

“Absolutely, not,” he agreed and led her back to the dressing room. He guided her back inside and followed behind her making sure the door shut behind them.

“I don’t think you’re supposed to be in here,” she said nervously.

“You could be right,” he agreed. “But who else will help you out of that monstrosity.”

She lifted her chin and met his gaze. “I believe that woman would have assisted me if I’d needed it.”

Zane stared down at her. She was delectable. He had to kiss her and see if she tasted as good as she looked. He leaned down and pressed his lips to hers. Her mouth fell open on a gasp allowing Zane to take advantage. His tongue touched hers and he lost all reason. She wound her arm around his neck giving him the opportunity to pull her tight against him. The material of the dress bunched up under his hands. He wanted to rip it off of her. It didn’t matter what it cost as long as the offending garment was disposed of. This wasn’t the place to press his suit. Zane stepped back and glanced down at her. Her lips were plump from his attention. It took all of his willpower to step away from her when everything inside of him screamed to kiss her again.

“Turn around,” he said huskily.

She tilted her head and said, “Why?”

“This dress has to go. Surely it has some kind of fastening to remove it.”

“No,” she replied. “Actually, it doesn’t. All you have to do is pull it over your head. Would you like me to demonstrate?”

Callista’s hands skimmed the edge of the dress. She licked her lips and held his gaze with her own. Zane swore and clenched his fists. The woman had to be teasing him. His dick hardened to a painful state and she thought to toy with him? She wasn’t an innocent and was well versed in how to entice a man. Zane wasn’t an untried lad who could be messed with. She’d understand that soon enough.

“By all means,” he said. “Show me how it’s done.”

He didn’t expect her to follow through, but she did. The dress was slowly lifted until tiny panties and a flat stomach kept his gaze riveted. Surely she’d stop—nope, she kept going and yanked the offending garment over her head. She let it hit the floor with a thud. Her breasts were hugged by pale pink lace that barely kept them contained. Zane itched to touch them.

“You want me,” she said.

God, yes. “What was your first clue?”

Spellbound by My Charmer: Linked Across Time 5

spellbound-by-my-charmer_fbbanner

The story that wasn’t planned… That is what Spellbound by My Charmer was for me. Book 5 was always supposed to be Stolen by My Knave (Jack and Elizabeth’s story). Then in Seduction of My Rake, Zane appeared as one of Bradford’s best friends. He was snarky and charming, and most assuredly happy to remain single. In Surrendering to My Spy a lot of questions were answered about Edward’s death and the fiancee he’d left behind. Callista had a lot recover from and way too much sadness mixed with anger. Who better to bring together than two cynical people who lost their belief in love and happily-ever-afters?

Those still waiting for Jack’s story don’t worry. It’s been written and moved up to be book 6. You won’t have long to wait for it. It’s going to be part of the Regency Ever After boxset that releases on March 7, 2017.

In the midst of chaos and uncertainty, can Zane and Callista discover something in each other they both believed lost to them?

Excerpt

He pushed open a door and headed toward the conservatory. There he could find the measure of peace he’d been hoping to gain. It wasn’t lost on him that during last year’s fundraiser he’d done much the same thing. The difference was he’d found Regina there. It had amused him to flirt with her and make Bradford jealous—their relationship too new, and trust rare at the time. Somehow, they managed to work it all out and married in a rush soon after.

The orange blossoms permeated the air. The smell comforted him. Relaxation filled him and for the first time that evening he felt at ease. This was his favorite part of his estate. It was comforting to be amongst the foliage and look into the night sky through the glass ceiling. The best of everything was found in the conservatory. Every type of plant he could logistically obtain he did—from tropical plants to the simple English rose. There was comfort, fresh air, and a bit of protection from the elements. He could sit in there for hours and not realize it. Unfortunately, he wasn’t afforded the opportunity to indulge in that pastime much.

He moved around the room, not paying attention to anything in particular. The quiet encircled him and created the calm he needed. Zane closed his eyes and took a deep breath.

When he opened them, he was shocked silent. A woman stumbled toward him. Her ice blue gown was torn on one side and her matching mask dangled from her right wrist. What must have been an elegant coiffure was now a mess of tangled mahogany curls. She lifted her head and met his gaze. Zane was stunned by her pale green eyes. Her beauty was unmistakable, but he wasn’t an ass. The woman was clearly hurt and in need of aide. She limped as she struggled to walk and held her one shoulder stiffly—it was stained red from what appeared to be a small gash. It must not have been too deep… The bleeding seemed to have stopped.

“Pardon me,” she started to say. Her body swayed and Zane reached out and caught her. “I’m not usually so gauche as to fall at a man’s feet.”

Zane’s lips tilted upward. “Madame, I doubt you’d have to stoop to such measures.” She was breathtaking. She stepped out of his arms and he wanted to pull her back. The need to protect her was strong.

She smiled, but it didn’t reach her eyes. There was something there that broke his heart. So much sadness reflected out of them. “My lord, I assure you I do not.”

Surrendering to My Spy: Linked Across Time Book 4

Blurb

A rogue, a marquess and a spy… Each an integral part of Dominic Rossington’s life and he does them all rather well. Love throws him off balance and he’ll do everything in his power to protect the one who holds his heart, Lady Rosanna. Danger lurks on the horizon and he’ll have to put it all on the line to save her.

Lady Rosanna Kendall’s heart was broken when the one man she always loved told her he’d never marry, and even if he did she’d be his last choice. Shortly afterward her eldest brother died in a freak accident sending her into mourning. During that time she picked up the tattered remains of her heart and hardened it.

Lord Dominic Rossington, the Marquess of Seabrook worked diligently as a spy for the war office. He led a dangerous life that had no place for a wife or family. He couldn’t in good conscience encourage Lady Rosanna—even if she was his greatest desire.

Years later Dominic sees a way to free himself of his obligations to the crown and finally claim the one woman he’s always wanted. All he has to do is complete one last mission and convince her she’s the only one for him.

Will they both survive Dominic’s dangerous lifestyle long enough to claim their happy-ever-after?

Excerpt

“You really are a dimwit, aren’t you?”

Dom turned toward the sound of Rosanna’s voice. His lips twitched into a small smile. “I’ve always thought I was quite brilliant.”

“You would,” she said with an upturned nose. “What made you believe interrogating James about Alys now was the right thing to do?”

He shrugged and stood. Rosanna was near and within his reach. He itched to pull her into his arms once again, but realized it wasn’t the time to press his point. She had to let go of her anger, and it’d been clear since he came to Weston she wasn’t ready to do that. He could give her time to let it out. If she needed to be a harpy whenever she was in his company to do that, so be it. He’d been a veritable ass after all.

“It distracted him, didn’t it?” She made a noise he had never heard before in his life. Was she…choking? “Are you all right?”

“I don’t know if I should slap you or agree with you.”

“Oh, agree, most definitely.” The corners of his mouth quirked up. “I abhor bruises, especially on my face.”

Rosanna shook her head. She didn’t fool him for a minute though. He could see her fighting not to smile “I doubt a bruise to your face would prevent a woman from falling for you, my lord. No doubt your wicked charm would have them all too willing to soothe your hurts.”

He wasn’t sure how he felt about her assessment—even if it had been accurate in the past. It wasn’t his fault ladies fell for his face. It was sheer luck he came from equally gorgeous stock. His ancestors had chosen their spouses well. He’d have been a fool not to take advantage of what providence had bestowed upon him, but to hear her say the words… Rosanna made it sound as if he was the worst kind of person for it. He studied her and said with much reluctance, “You wouldn’t help ease my pain?”

She snorted with unlady like grace. “No, my lord, I’d be the one delivering the blow that leaves you filled with twinges of pain.”

When would she dispense with my lording him? He wanted to hear his name on her lips once more. “Dom,” he replied. “Say it.”

“No,” she said.

Juliette’s Age in A Wallflower’s Christmas Kiss

wallflowerxmaskiss_fbbanner

Juliette is NOT 25

So release day for A Wallflower’s Christmas Kiss has come and gone… I feel the need to explain that one thing after reading some reviews.

I’m not sure about the math used to determine her age. She was 9 years old in the prologue. She states that it has almost been 15 years since they’d last shared a Christmastide together… Which equals 24.

I’m glad so many people are enjoying the book. But that age thing seems to be leading to some misconceptions about her ability to marry and having reached a majority. In this book that isn’t even an issue. Her choice to marry had nothing to do with reaching her majority. The choice to go to Gretna Green was the most prudent considering the time. I will explain a little more later. First let me explain when a woman reached majority in Regency. (Juliette while 24 not 25 still was in her majority but as I stated earlier it doesn’t matter)

During the Regency period the age of consent for females was 21, not 25. There are some authors that included that age in there books for whatever reason, but it’s not quite accurate. There is such  a thing as a guardianship and that differs from the majority. Which may be what some readers are confusing. The father or guardian sets up a trust for their female relation and that is where the guardianship comes in, and in a lot of cases this idea of the age of 25 being important. For example, marrying with the guardian’s approval so they can inherit her money or property. If the woman married without her guardian’s permission she would forfeit her inheritance or trust. In most places that age was still 21 unless stated otherwise in the trust documents. So in that sense an author can use liberties with the age for their story.

So Juliette was well past the age of consent and her dowry or trust was never discussed. It was a short novel, but it can be assumed she had one. Her father had control over it either way. But even in this case her dowry was not important. Her reasons for marrying Grayson had nothing to do with her inheritance, dowry, or a trust. She was trying to escape marriage to a man she didn’t feel would treat her right.

So as to why they went to Gretna Green and Grayson didn’t obtain a special license… 1: It would have been over way to quick and what kind of story would that have been? :. It was late at night when Juliette arrived at the duke’s townhouse. There wasn’t exactly time to rush over to the Archbishop and apply for one. 3: In all reality eloping to Gretna Green was more likely than a special licence (regardless of the duke’s fortune.) because they were actually rare. They are a nice tool in historical romance and many authors use it (I have myself) but it wasn’t plausible in this particular story. Juliette wanted to make sure she would never be forced to marry Lord Payne. If they stayed in London their chances of being caught went up every moment they remained. By leaving immediately they put presumed distance between Juliette’s family and her.

So I hope that clears up any questions you might have about Juliette and Grayson’s motivations. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Blurb

Have you ever dreamed of a Christmas wedding?

Spinsterhood has never looked so good, but unfortunately even that won’t save Lady Juliette Brooks. Her father’s arranged a betrothal for her to a brute of a man. She has one choice left—force the Duke of Kissinger to honor a long ago promise to save her.

Grayson Abbot, the Duke of Kissinger, does not want to marry Lady Juliette. He doesn’t want to marry anyone. But he did make her a promise, and he doesn’t go back on his word… So he reluctantly agrees to run away with her.

They set off on an adventure during the Christmastide season. As they race to Scotland they experience delays, cold weather, and a friendship they’d almost forgotten about. Will Juliette finally find out what it’s like to be kissed, and in return, win the duke’s heart?

Excerpt

Grayson sighed. She wasn’t going to be denied anything apparently. It was too late to save her from herself. Very well, he’d deal with her and then send her on her way. He turned and sucked in a breath momentarily stunned. A silhouette of pure beauty greeted him. Her midnight tresses were wound up and bound neatly into an elegant chignon. His fingers itched to unwind it and see it flow over her luscious curves. All of this and he’d still not seen her face. When she finally turned to meet his gaze he lost all ability to breathe. Those sea-green eyes kept him riveted in place. He should stand and greet her but his body refused to function. She was the last person he expected or wanted to enter his home.

“What no words?” She raised an eyebrow. “And I thought you were noted as the witty duke amongst the ton. I must say I’m rather disappointed.”

Grayson drank in the sight of her. He wanted to remember her as she stood before him for the rest of his days. She was glorious, proud, and fearless. “Didn’t your father teach you better than to enter the lion’s den?” He lifted a brow mockingly. “You could very well get eaten alive.”

Her lips tilted at the corner. “I rather like my chances.” She moved further into the room. “After all I tamed a lion before.”

“There’s a difference between a young cub, and a full grown male, Jules,” he explained. “One is more docile and willing to cuddle. The adult wants to be petted—in other ways.” He stood up and gazed directly into her eyes. “A bite can be pleasurable or….” Grayson crossed over to her side and leaned down, whispering in her ear, “painful depending on your preference.”

Juliette took a deep breath but remained where she stood. He’d give her that much. She’d always been a stubborn girl, and apparently she’d not grown out of that trait. If she didn’t take a step back soon he’d be forced to make a choice. Either he pulled her into his arms and kissed her the way he craved or he put distance between them respecting her innocence. It was a hard decision and warred deep inside him, but he did what was best for her. Turned out that some things were ingrained. Protecting her had always been his first instinct.

“If you’re done trying to intimidate me I have something I wish to discuss with you.”

Linked Across Time

lat

I would like to take a moment to discuss this series. I’ve had this brainchild in my head for a while and started writing it last year in preparation for the Once Upon a Regency boxset. Book 2 actually released before book 1 because of that. Here is a list of the series in order that are already written and either available or on preorder. All are available on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited (except the one on preorder it will be in KU after it releases)

  1. Saved by My Blackguard (Paul and Evelyn)
  2. Searching for My Rogue (James and Alys)
  3. Seduction of My Rake (Regina and Bradford)
  4. Surrendering to My Spy (Dominic and Rosanna) *on preorder

untitled-design-1

Some might have questions about some of the characters. Especially after reading Seduction of My Rake. A new character is introduced and is the love of that particular person’s life–and she’s missing. Before I address that particular issue I want to make a few things clear.

  • This series is not in chronological order. They are more fluid. The premise is time travel it wouldn’t work if they went chronologically. So in a nutshell they jump all over the place.
  • Not every story will have actual time travel in them. They ARE all connected or linked in some way. Actually only 2 of them don’t show time travel, but they help further along the story-line of other characters.
  • There is an overall arc to the series trying to figure out how the time travel is possible. A lot of those answers are sprinkled in throughout the series, but won’t necessarily become evident right away. The final book will be enlightening.
  • All the characters WILL have their stories told in their POV.

Now some readers want to know what’s next. Surrendering to My Spy is on preorder. It releases in December. It will answer some questions that left unanswered in Searching for My Rogue. Alys and James play pivotal parts as well. There are three more books planned in the series. Here are the titles of the subsequent books and their projected release dates.

  • 5. Spellbound by My Charmer (Zane and Callista) *tentative release day 2/14/17*
  • 6. Stolen by My Knave (Elizabeth and Jack)  *coming in 2017*
  • 7. Separated from My Love (Trenton and Genevieve) *coming in 2017*

Callista is a new character that you meet in Surrendering to My Spy. She has had a lot of loss and is hell bent on revenge. Zane needs a strong woman to keep him in line, and Callista isn’t exactly sure she wants the job. Elizabeth is the daughter of James and Alys and if you read Saved by My Blackguard you will remember the pirate captain well. In this book you’ll finally have his story and discover what happened to him. Now Trent and Eve–they will wrap everything up and you *might* get a glimpse into everyone’s live at some point in their book. You’ll have to keep reading to find out. I promise you there is a method to my madness and I hope you will like how it all finishes.
